Frequently Asked Questions:

How long are the sessions?

Session time varies based on need, tolerance and content.  Your therapist reserves the entire 60 min for you, but for children in particular the session time may be much less.  The most useful therapy is client centered and for some clients 30 min is all the can be tolerated, this is true in particular for children, and in order to keep the process authentic the session will end when it is clinically indicated within the 60 min.

If I am private pay and the session is less than 60 min will I be charged the whole fee?

Yes. Your therapist works hard to prepare for sessions, coordinate with emails, and document and process the session. The fee covers timeout of session and if the session lasts 60 min the cost does not increase to you.

What if I need to cancel due to an emergency?

The policy of this practice is a strict 48 hours. We cannot make exceptions, and any missed session is charged the full 150 fee. Even if you are sick your therapist has spent time planning for the session and has reserved this spot for you. You are paying for that hour, and therapists cannot bill insurance if the time is missed. You will be offered a Telehealth appointment if your therapist finds it appropriate. We encourage you to fully understand and accept this policy before joining our practice.

What if my therapist cancels?

You will not be charged if your therapist cancels.

What if I don’t like my therapist?

It happens. Therapy is a personal experience, and it is important that you feel it is a good fit. Your therapist is a professional and understands the therapeutic process and you are encouraged to talk to your therapist about your feelings. Sometimes this can be worked out and sometimes a referral is necessary. We will help you with any community referrals.

How do I communicate outside of sessions?

Your therapist is not under an obligation to respond to correspondence outside of the session. If you need to reschedule you can email admin@bwellcounseling.care and your appointment will be canceled. You can email your therapist at any time but it is important to understand that you may not get a response and it is not appropriate to communicate emergencies via email or to your therapist and you should access 911 in this case.

Should I take telehealth or in-person appointments?

Therapy can be effective through either in-person or telehealth visits. It is up to the client and the therapist to determine what is appropriate for each client. Although it may feel awkward for you to do telehealth many people find it fits their schedules best. Your therapist is a trained professional and has received specialized guidance on engagement through telehealth so despite how it may feel for you, there is a good chance you may settle in nicely through this platform. If you are curious about telehealth and/or are concerned about the time taken to get to appointments telehealth may be worth trying.
